Charmaine Alamein of Anjali Pure Essential Oils
Charmaine is one of those effortless stylish, calm and down to earth mothers that generate a warm beautiful feeling within your heart, you walk away from being in her presence and vow to slow down and make the most of this beautiful world around us, she has a touching soul. So it seems only natural to bottle up that goodness in the power of organic pure essential oils and share it with the world! This week we stepped inside the aromatic surrounds of ANJALI Pure Essential Oils...
How would you best describe your personal style:
These days, I am a lot more relaxed than I used to be, but I would say I love quality rather than quantity. I would rather purchase one beautiful quality item than several items. I do love a good statement piece too, whether its jewellery, a bag, shoes or a gorgeous piece of clothing as then you can go plain with the rest of your outfit.
Take us through a typical day:
Weekday mornings are spent with my little man Ziggy, our home routine in the morning is turning on the essential oil diffuser of course, followed by making myself a cup of tea and preparing our breakfast. I love our morning chats and the fresh feeling of a new day. After breakfast its either kindy drop off which leaves me available to devote the entire day to ANJALI and my work or its juggling appointments, packing orders and other work related things with Ziggy in tow. Some days it means getting up early or staying up late when Ziggy is sleeping to get through extra work.
I do have help from family which is so great, this also frees me up during the day to achieve more, but otherwise I work around Ziggy. When I can I take a reformer pilates class, I try to do this several times a week along with a walk with our dog Sabu, when I can. I feel both of these give me the extra energy I need and it also makes me more productive and happier mum as I have taken some time out for myself! I do love, and look forward to family dinner time as on weekdays it’s the only time through the day we have together as a family so I enjoy this, even if it is a bit chaotic at times.
The most interesting and amazing self discovery of becoming a mum:
Becoming a mum is an eye opener in many wonderful ways, it’s not only about you anymore you have a small human observing everything you say and do. I can say it has made me a lot more selfless and has made me a better person. It also puts a whole new meaning on love. The love you have and continue to develop for your child is so deep and so real it’s a very special feeling, and you have this drive to do anything you can to make them happy.
Just the smallest and most simple moments, even just a smile from your child can make you feel so happy.
Tell us about what inspired you to create Anjali and the journey of starting a business:
It was really the encouragement I received from my husband Adam and my sister in law Rouba who both motivated me to start ANJALI. After a change of life becoming a Mum over two years ago, I wasn’t sure what to do, I didn’t want to only be a Mum at home. Even though it really is a full time job, I wanted a little more for myself as I have always worked. I had previously worked with Rouba in event and interior styling for many years and I have a deep appreciation for all things aesthetically pleasing. I have always used essential oils since I was young more just for the aroma, but I developed a huge love and passion for essential oils over the last three years. My family love to joke that I have a ‘hound dog nose’ ...compliment ??, I’m not so sure but I am always aware of smells and thankfully my strong sense of smell has directed me to selecting some very beautiful oils that are now part of the ANJALI range. I personally felt there was a big need for a beautifully presented essential oil range that was certified organic and also affordable. I wanted a product that our customers would be drawn to and of course love to use but also to be able to leave out on their bathroom vanity, bedside table or coffee table.
At first the thought of creating my own business and range of products was very daunting but its amazing what you can achieve if you are encouraged and supported, believe in something, are passionate about it and set your mind to it. ANJALI is a beautiful Indian girls name that means a gift, offering or a tribute and I was drawn to this name because I feel that essential oils are a gift from nature and when they are undisturbed and in their pure form they really are a powerful gift, whether it’s for the aroma they deliver, the feelings they can evoke or the health benefits they can provide.
How do you best achieve a work/life balance:
This can be a juggle as there are so many elements involved in running a business that you can’t always switch off from. This perhaps is not perfectly balanced just yet but I am aware of it and as family we try our best to be spiritually balanced and have plenty of family time so this balances out our working life. There is always room for improvement though. We are very social people too so this means we get so much happiness from spending lots of time with family and friends.
We love the richness of colour and botanical aesthetics you source for your imagery, it has created quite a desire to travel to these magical lands! Where do you dream of travelling? and what essential oils would be packed for the trip! Maybe it would be easier to list where I don’t want to travel too. Ha ha! The list is huge and ever growing. A few places that would really excite me to experience are India, along with Sri Lanka and returning to see more of Southern Italy which I really love.
Bali we have visited many times, but I have such a soft spot for it and its people. My sister and brother in law also live there so we would like to be able to visit them more. But for now, its very child-friendly places like Byron Bay and Noosa and other beautiful parts of our country that we enjoy. My go-to essential oils for travel would be Eucalyptus, Clove, Helichrysum, Lavender, Lemon, Lemongrass, Tea Tree, Peppermint and Frankincense. Each of these oils are so essential in a chemical free, natural first aid kit and can help treat or assist with any ailment. In addition to these I love using our Geranium essential oil with Jojoba oil on my face daily. I also always take a diffuser with me whenever I travel even if the time away is short, that way we can enjoy our oils wherever we are.
Anjali Essential oils are not only a super stylish fabulous smelling accessory for your home but hold very powerful natural plant extracts to enrich your life and aid common everyday illness, what are a few of your favourite go to blends to help Ziggy and yourself get through the cooler months of the year:
There is a great immunity blend that has existed for centuries it consists of Clove, Cinnamon, Lemon or Orange (whichever you prefer more) Rosemary and Eucalyptus essential oils. These can be added to a diffuser in equal quantities or added to a carrier oil and applied to the neck and chest and feet. We also love a blend of Lavender, Frankincense and Cedarwood for sleep time in the diffuser.
We add a few drops of oil to the bath water too, for mornings I would select citrus oils as they are refreshing and uplifting and for the afternoon or evening we add oils like Lavender, Juniper berry, Ylang-ylang or Sandalwood as they are calming.
We were thrilled to see the addition of your beautiful ceramic diffusers to the range! What can we expect to see and smell as Anjali develops in the future?
Thank you !! We are currently working on our oil blends, we are working on a beautiful womans’ blend, a unisex blend, sleep blend and an immunity blend. It takes a lot of time and trialing to get it perfect but we are getting close! From there we hope to add many more blends to the ANJALI family but these will be a good start.
